Evaluation of Paper-Pen based Sketching Interface

چکیده
The retrieval and browsing of diagrammatic information extracted from hand-drawn diagrams would open up a rich form of information interaction. However, such sketches currently require handannotations in order to be understood by the computer. While improvements in sketch recognition algorithms have enabled automatic recognition for Tablet PCsketched diagrams, such progress has been constrained to online algorithms. As a result, offline algorithms that are relevant to diagrams sketched on paper remain dominantly domain-dependent, and are also restrictive in the number of diagrams that can be understood. In this paper, we discuss our research aims for providing users with information interaction that exploit the advantages of automatic correction capabilities found in online sketch recognition algorithms, with the low-cost advantages found in paper usage.

A Profile-driven Sketching Interface for Pen-and-Paper Sketches
Sketching interface tools are developed to allow designers to benefit from the powerful computational tools available in computer aided design systems. However, despite the number of sketching tools such as PDAs and Tablet PCs available on market, designers typically create a number of initial conceptual ideas using paper-based sketches and scribbles such that these tools remain inaccessible to...
متن کاملSocial-Technical Tools for Collaborative Sensemaking and Sketching
Sensemaking is a deliberate effort to understand events or information, and a sketch is an exploratory graphic composition of a concept or observation. Within the architecture domain, sketching is employed during predesign phases to create a shared understanding among clients and stakeholders. While sensemaking is highly collaborative, sketching is usually a solitary activity. This paper descri...
متن کاملPersketchtivity: An Intelligent Pen-Based Online Education Platform for Sketching Instruction
Design sketching is an important and versatile skill for engineering students to master. Through it, students translate their design thoughts effectively onto a visual medium, whether to produce hand-drawn sketches onto paper, seamlessly interact with intelligent sketch-based modeling interfaces, or reap the advantages of educational benefits associated with drawing in general. Traditional inst...
متن کاملHands - On - Math Final Report – September 2010
This report summarizes the work conducted under the 1 year Surface initiative project. Our goal was to explore the value proposition of adapting pen-centric mathematical sketching techniques to a hybrid pen and multitouch environment based on a Microsoft Surface. Our results were positively received during evaluation as participants commented that our Hands-On Math prototype not only made inter...
متن کاملFrom Pen-and-Paper Sketches to Prototypes: The Advanced Interaction Design Environment
Pen and paper is still the best tool for sketching GUIs. However, sketches cannot be executed, at best we have facilitated or animated scenarios. The Advanced User Interaction Environment facilitates turning hand-drawn sketches into executable prototypes.
متن کاملExperiences Developing an E-Whiteboard-Based Circuit Designer
E-whiteboards large image display surfaces (LIDS) that support data input with pen-based sketching have become more readily available in recent times. We describe a prototype environment making use of this new user interface technology aimed at the teaching of digital circuit design and behaviour. In this paper we focus on some of the key user interface design and implementation challenges we f...
